India’s Gems, Jewellery Exports Jump 26.5% To USD 2.21 Bn In June: GJEPC
New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) India’s gem and jewellery exports recorded a strong rebound in June, with gross exports rising 26.51 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to USD 2.21 billion, according to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The growth was driven by robust demand across major international markets for gold jewellery, cut and polished diamonds, platinum jewellery and lab-grown diamonds. Industry participation in global exhibitions, including those in Kuwait and Sharjah, also supported the recovery.
GJEPC attributed part of the rebound to a 10.28 per cent month-on-month decline in international gold prices, which reduced input costs and improved price competitiveness for Indian exporters.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said, “The strong rebound in June exports reflects the resilience of India’s gem and jewellery sector amid an evolving global trade environment,” ANI reported.
Product-Wise Performance
Among key segments, gold jewellery exports surged 54.50 per cent to USD 1.09 billion, while studded gold jewellery exports rose 85.35 per cent. Cut and polished diamond exports increased 8.71 per cent, platinum jewellery exports grew 34.77 per cent, and polished lab-grown diamond exports climbed 52.25 per cent.
However, exports of silver jewellery and coloured gemstones declined during the month.
Quarterly Trend and Outlook
For the April–June 2026 quarter, overall exports remained largely stable at USD 6.61 billion, registering marginal growth of 0.04 per cent in dollar terms and 10.76 per cent in rupee terms.
The council noted that the June rebound reflects the sector’s resilience despite global uncertainties and elevated precious metal prices. It added that sustained demand, market diversification and trade agreements such as the India–UK CETA are expected to support export growth in the coming months.
At the same time, the council flagged continued challenges in gold availability due to regulatory issues related to GST on imports by RBI-notified nominated agencies.
