Indore Tops MP in Exports Worth Over Rs 20,000 Cr

Indore, Jun 11 (KNN) Indore emerged as the leading exporter in Madhya Pradesh for the financial year 2023-24, with outbound shipments worth over Rs 20,000 crore.

The city's exports grew by 12 per cent year-on-year, reaching Rs 20,256 crore, driven primarily by medicines, textiles, and engineering products.

According to data from the office of the Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Dhar ranked second in the state with exports valued at Rs 10,973 crore, a slight increase from the previous year.

The pharmaceutical industry was the most significant contributor to Dhar's exports.

Overall, Madhya Pradesh's total exports for the 2023-24 fiscal year stood at Rs 65,255 crore, a marginal 1 per cent decrease from the previous year.

The pharmaceutical sector played a crucial role, with exports of pharmaceutical products from the state amounting to Rs 13,158 crore.

Suvidh Shah, Joint Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Madhya Pradesh, stated, "Highest exports in MP in the last fiscal were from Indore followed by Dhar.

Medicines and pharmaceutical products contributed maximum in the total export from MP. Pharma, Soya, Cotton and Engineering products have shown good growth in exports and are expected to maintain the same growth in the ongoing fiscal."

In the 2023-24 fiscal year, Indore exported medicines worth Rs 4,451 crore, an increase from Rs 3,740 crore a year ago, while Dhar's medicine exports stood at Rs 1,495 crore.

The top 10 exported items from Madhya Pradesh included pharmaceuticals, soy, cotton, machinery, readymade garments, organic chemicals, aluminum, electrical machinery, and plastics.

The Malwa-Nimar region witnessed higher soybean meal exports compared to the previous year, with Agar-Malwa exporting Rs 1.42 crore, Dewas Rs 425 crore, and Neemuch Rs 201 crore.
