Eyeing at innovative tech and reducing logistics costs, 34 MoUs signed at Transport & Logistic Summit

New Delhi, May 6 (KNN) In a bid to bring down the overall logistics cost in the country to globally comparable rates and to move towards an well-developed technological ecosystem, thirty four MoUs worth Rs 2 lakh crores were signed at the three day India Integrated Transport and Logistic Summit in New Delhi on May 5.

The MoUs were signed in the subjects concerning the port connectivity, integrated check post (ICP) in the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Manipur, access to land port in the north eastern states including Tripura, Assam and Mizoram.

MoUs were also signed for the development of Logistics Parks in various states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Mizoram, Gujarat and Assam.  Also the idea to develop the Multi Modal Logistics Parks in Mumbai, Haryana and Bengaluru was proposed and MoUs were signed in this regard.

There were discussions on exploring the investment opportunities in the logistics sector, inland waterways and the implementation of the already proposed 79 port connectivity project under Sagarmala scheme. 

Around 3 thousand delegates from the country and abroad participated in the summit; these included various stakeholders such as Central and State Government officials, representatives from International organizations including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.  Also experts and professionals from global transport and supply chain industry were present.

The key themes discussed in the summit were the development of multi modal logistics parks, construction of freight corridors, technology for urban transportation, and transformation in the supply chain system and innovations in storage facilities. There was a dedicated session on the GST in which various concerns along the new tax regime was discussed.

Key government officials including Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar were present at the summit. (KNN/ DA)
