UPI Volumes Surge 29% in December, Transaction Value Jump 20% to Rs 28 Lakh Crore

New Delhi, Jan 1 (KNN) Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions continued to soar in December 2025 with total payment count rising 29% year-on-year to 21.63 billion during the month.

The transaction volume recorded in December was also the highest ever, reflecting faster adoption of digital payment methods.

The value of transactions during December 2025 stood at Rs 27.97 lakh crore, a growth of 20% year-on-year.

As per National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) data, average daily transactions were 698 million in December 2025 as compared to 682 million in the previous month.

The rise in average daily UPI transactions indicates wider use of the payment system for small-ticket payments.

"What we are seeing today is not seasonal acceleration, but structural behavior change, with UPI becoming the default mode of payment across metros as well as tier 2 and tier 3 cities. This adoption is also deepening, with wider QR acceptance, rising consumer confidence, and higher average ticket sizes pushing UPI beyond everyday, low value purchases into more meaningful, higher value transactions," said Akash Sinha, CEO & Co-founder, Cashfree

Anand Kumar Bajaj, Founder, MD & CEO, PayNearby said that UPI’s continued momentum reflects not just scale, but the deep trust it has earned across India’s digital economy.
