Flipkart to help 10,000 sellers grow their online businesses

New Delhi, Jan 14 (KNN)  Major online shopping portal, Flipkart is planning to help around 10,000 sellers this year to generate business worth one million through its platform, according to media reports.

Last year, the e-commerce company had assisted over 2000 sellers to improve their businesses by selling their products on the portal.   Most of the sellers on the platform are from the sectors of apparel and consumer electronics categories followed by home décor, jewellery, handicrafts and large appliances, the reports added. 

On Tuesday, Flipkart had announced the launch of an exclusive store for Banarasi weave sarees in association with DC handlooms, Ministry of Textiles with an aim to bring handloom weavers of India closer to millions of customers across the country.

The company has also been involved in conducting workshops and training programmes, particularly for small and medium enterprises while providing capital assistance, marketing support such as packaging and producing catalogues.

In addition, last year, Flipkart  had joined hands with EPCH (Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts), VTPC (Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre) and KASSIA (Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association) to organize a session on “How to grow your business online” with the seller community in Bengaluru.  Focused on empowering sellers and entrepreneurs from the region, the workshop covered the on-boarding processes, return policies and serviceability and commission structure for sellers.

The interactive workshop saw active participation from over 120 sellers across categories like - handicrafts, home decor, home furnishing, kitchen, footwear, fashion jewellery, electronics and mobiles.

In keeping with its aim to enable artisans and entrepreneurs, Flipkart has tied up with Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) and National Centre for Design and Product Development (NCDPD) to boost manufacturing in India.

Earlier, Flipkart also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Director General – Employment and Training (DGET), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt of India, to help Indian MSMEs leverage the online marketplace platform to scale their businesses by supplementing their employee requirements and upgrading their skills.

Some of the features Flipkart offers its online sellers are – it educates them on selling online by providing online tools and workshops/training; provides marketing support for the listed products; shares data on market trends that helps in customer acquisition; and cataloguing and packaging services that maintain and enhance quality.  (KNN/ES)
