Foreign tourist arrivals grow by 9.6% in October 2014 over 2013

New Delhi, Nov 8 (KNN) As many as 6.56 lakh foreign tourists visited the country in October 2014 as compared to 5.98 lakh in the corresponding month in 2013 and 5.56 lakh in 2012, showing a growth of 9.6 per cent in October 2014 over last year.
 
“There has been a growth of 9.6 per cent in October 2014 over October 2013 as compared to a growth of 7.5 per cent registered in October 2013 over October 2012,” said data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
 
Foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) during January-October 2014 were 58.35 lakh as compared to the FTAs of 54.12 lakh in 2013 showing a growth of 7.8 per cent over 5.6 per cent during January-October 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012.
 
Bangladesh shared the highest number of FTAs with 14.14 per cent in India during October 2014 among the top 15 source countries. It was followed by the USA (12.55 per cent), UK (10.95 per cent), Sri Lanka (3.73 per cent), Russian Federation (3.64 per cent) and Canada (3.64 per cent).
 
Meanwhile, the foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) in October 2014 over October 2013 registered a growth rate of 13.9 per cent as compared to 6.0 per cent in October 2013 over October 2012.
 
FEEs during October 2014 were Rs 9.847 crore as compared to Rs 8,645 in October 2013 and Rs 8,154 crore in October 2012.
 
FEE from tourism during January-October 2014 were Rs 96,007 crore with a growth of 12.9 per cent, as compared to the FEE of Rs 85,014 crore with a growth of 14.6 per cent during January-October 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012. (KNN/ST)
