Foreign Tourist Arrivals grows by 4.5% in March 2014 over March 2013

New Delhi, Apr 7 (KNN) Foreign Tourist Arrivals have slightly increased Year on Year basis from 6.40 lakh in March 2013 to 6.69 lakh in March 2013, with a growth of 4.5 per cent. The Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism in Rupees terms in March, 2014 were Rs 10,257 crore in comparison to Rs 9,553 crore in March, 2013. 

Tourism is an important sector for the micro and small units. Foreign tourists are the major buyers of handicraft items, handlooms, leather as well as gems and jewellery. Many micro and small units depend on foreign tourists for their livelihood.

FTAs during the period January-March 2014 were 21.27 lakh with a growth of 4.9 per cent, as compared to the FTAs of 20.27 lakh with a growth of 3.0 per cent during January-March 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012, according to an official data by the Ministry of Tourism.

The growth rate in FEEs in rupee terms in March 2014 over March 2013 was 7.4 per cent as compared to 21.8 per cent in March 2013 over March 2012.

FEE from tourism in rupee terms during January-March 2014 were Rs 32,809 crore with a growth of 8.4 per cent, as compared to the FEE of Rs.30,270 crore with a growth of 21.2 per cent during  January-March 2013 over the corresponding period of 2012. (KNN/SD)
