Foreign tourist arrivals grows by 9.2 % in May 2015 over 2014

New Delhi, Jun 8 (KNN) As many as 5.11 lakh foreign tourists visited India in May 2015 as compared to 4.68 lakh in the corresponding month in 2014 showing a growth of 9.2 per cent in May 2015 over May 2014.

According to the monthly estimate data release by the Ministry of Tourism, the Foreign, Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) during the period January- May 2015 were 33.32 lakh with a growth of 3.6 per cent, as compared to the FTAs of 32.15 lakh in January-May 2014.

Bangladesh shared the highest number of FTAs with 19.32 per cent in India during May 2015 among top 15 source countries. It was followed by   USA (16.99 per cent), UK (7.79 per cent), Malaysia (3.59 per cent), Sri Lanka (3.54 per cent), Japan (2.78 per cent), Australia (2.66 per cent), Canada (2.63 per cent), Germany (2.59 per cent), China (2.56 per cent), Nepal (2.52 per cent),  Singapore (2.36 per cent), France (2.16 per cent),Pakistan (1.84 per cent) and Oman (1.66 per cent) .  These top 15 countries account for 74.99 per cent of total FTAs during May 2015.

Meanwhile, the foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) in May 2015 over May 2014 registered a growth rate of 23.6 per cent as compared to 8.4 per cent in May 2014 over May 2013.
FEEs during May 2015 were Rs 8,877 crore as compared to Rs 7,184 crore in May 2014 and Rs 6,627 crore in May 2013.

FEEs from tourism in rupee terms in January- May 2015 were Rs 51,351 crore with a growth of 6.3 per cent as compared to the FEE of Rs 48,302 crore with a growth of 8.7 per cent during January - May 2014 over January - May 2013. (KNN/ST)
