FSSAI extends registration of food business operators by 6 months

New Delhi, Feb 5 (KNN) The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the enforcement division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has extended the time for food business operators to obtain licences and registrations, up to August 4, 2015.

“Having regard to the representatives from various stakeholders including individuals, FBOs and various associations seeking extension of time line for registration and licencing as per Food Safety Standards (Licencing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations 2011, the time line was extended for six months up to 4-8-2012 and then for another 12 months i.e. up to 4-2-2014 and thereafter up to 4-8-2014 and last time up to 4-2-2015. As a result, the time line of one year got modified to a period of 36 months,” said a release from the authority.

According to the regulations, no person can commence any food business unless possessing a valid licence.

FSSAI was established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which consolidates various acts and orders that have hitherto handled food related issues in various ministries and departments. 

The Act has an aim to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi- level, multi- departmental control to a single line of command. (KNN/ST)
