GCCI writes to RBI regarding MDR Charges
Ahmedabad, July 25 (KNN) The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has made a strong representation against banks for wrongly deducting Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) charges and other charges on digital payments, in spite of abolishment of these charges from July 1, 2019 as announced in the Budget 2019-20.
Expressing its strong dissatisfaction and concern on this serious issue, GCCI sent a representation letter to Governor of Reserve Bank of India Shaktikanta Das. Along with, a copy marked to RBI's Regional Director for Gujarat, S.K. Panigrahy and also to the State Level Bankers' Committee as well as Zonal Heads of all banks.
In the representation letter sent to the RBI, GCCI has suggested RBI to issue necessary guidelines to the banks to stop recovery of such charges with immediate effect. Moreover, re-credit the amount that has been recovered from wrongdoing in the accounts of the customers with interest.
GCCI has also written to the zonal heads of all banks and has asked them to obtain details of such wrongly deducted amount from their respective branch offices.
GCCI has requested that details of the total amount wrongly deducted by the bank and the amount re-credited by them should also be provided to back to them.
