Govt deemed 'Export Promotion Council' status to KVIC to boost Khadi export

New Delhi, July 24 (KNN) The Government, in order to boost export of khadi products, has given deemed ‘Export Promotion Council’ status to KVIC under which KVIC has already enlisted more than 900 exporters. 
 
There is a provision of providing incentive in the form of 5 per cent FOB value of direct export of khadi products. Besides, KVIC has also been focusing on quality participation in International Exhibitions and Buyer-Seller Meets abroad to tap new/emerging markets for khadi products, Minister of State, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Giriraj Singh informed Parliament. 
 
Singh said that the Ministry of MSME has been implementing various schemes/programmes for the development of khadi and village industries through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
 
There has been significant growth in the production, sales and employment during preceding years. The production, sales and employment under khadi and village industries sector during last three years.
 
According to the official data by the Ministry of MSME, the cumulative employment in the Khadi sector increased from 10.71 lakh in 2012-13 to 11.27 lakh (Provisional) in 2014-15.
 
Whereas, in the Village Industries, it increased from 114.05 lakh in 2012-13 to 132.72 lakh in 2014-15.
 
The sale of Khadi increased from Rs 1021.56 crore in 2012-13 to Rs 1144.90 crore in 2014-15, whereas in village industries, it increased from Rs 26,818.13 in 2012-13 to Rs 31,965.52 in 2014-15.
 
The main items exported under Khadi are Silk & Muslin, Ready Made Garments, Textile Based Handicraft and Charkha. (KNN Bureau)
