Govt Dismisses Reports Of Nepal Ban On Indian Mangoes
New Delhi, Jun 11 (KNN) The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has clarified that reports claiming Nepal has banned or suspended imports of Indian mangoes are incorrect.
Nepal’s Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Center also said that no restrictions have been imposed on Indian mango imports.
It stated that shipments of Indian mangoes continue to be allowed in Nepal subject to prescribed phytosanitary requirements, including valid phytosanitary certificates issued by the Government of India.
Exports of Indian mangoes to Nepal remain uninterrupted. Since January 2026, India has exported 149 consignments comprising 2,005 metric tonnes (MT) of mangoes to Nepal, according to official data.
In June 2026 alone, 18 consignments totalling 266 MT have been exported so far.
The Agriculture ministry noted that Nepal has recently revised certain import conditions, including the requirement for Hot Water Treatment (HWT).
India continues to facilitate exports in compliance with these requirements while raising concerns over the introduction of new phytosanitary measures without prior consultation through bilateral channels and relevant international frameworks.
The Ministry has advised traders, stakeholders and the public to rely on official communications for information on import and export regulations and disregard unverified reports regarding restrictions on Indian mango exports to Nepal.
