Govt funding schemes for handicrafts

New Delhi, Feb 28 (KNN) The Development Commissioner for Handicrafts today announced plans to implement various government schemes for financially helping the employment-oriented sector with the help of independent organisations.
The funds available are under different government schemes which include marketing through Gandhi Shilp Bazaars, Craft Bazaars, Exhibitions; design workshops, integrated design projects; technical training programmes, Guru Shishya Parampara; and Cluster (AHVY-Ambedkar Hastshiilp Vikash Yojana) projects.
Funds can also be availed for infrastructure projects such as emporiums, museums, design banks, CFCs, raw material banks, testing laboratories, Craft based Resource Centre, Facility Centre for Exporters/Entrepreneurs, Urban Haat, Mini Urban Haat, Emporia, Marketing and sourcing hubs in urban areas, design and craft schools, technology upgradation , and integrated handicraft parks.
In addition, the office of the development commissioner for handicrafts would also provide financial assistance for research and development and participation in foreign fairs.
In this regard, proposals are invited from eligible organisations.
India is one of the important suppliers of handicrafts to the world market. The Indian handicrafts industry is highly labour intensive cottage based industry and decentralized spread all over the country - both in rural and urban areas. Numerous artisans are engaged in crafts work on either full or part-time basis. The industry provides employment to over six million artisans (including those in carpet trade), which include a large number of women and people belonging to the weaker sections of the society.
