New Delhi, Dec 6 (KNN)  In an effort to enhance food supply to its consumers, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has proposed to set up cold chain projects.

The project has been taken under the scheme for cold chain, value addition and preservation infrastructure in the country with an objective to provide integrated and complete preservation infrastructure without any break from the farm gate to the customer.

In this context, the ministry is seeking partnership from various economy sectors like entrepreneurs, co-operative societies, self-help groups (SHGs), farmer producer organisations (FPOs), NGOs and PSUs to provide services.

The scheme has components like minimal processing centre at the farm level, mobile pre cooling vans and reefer trucks, distribution hubs with multi product and multi CA/MA chambers, cold storage, packing facility, grading, CIP fog treatment, ripening chambers, IQF and blast freezing.

MOFPI focuses on issues relating to the promotion of food processing industries in the country which would result in reduction in losses, efficient storage and transportation, processing increase in shelf life of food products, availability of fresh and processed products at reasonable price to consumers and better income to the farmers.  (KNN/ST)
