Govt needs to play role of facilitator & enabler for pvt sector for development of smart city: Gajendra Haldea

New Delhi, July 27 (KNN) Smart city translates into smart solutions delivered in an efficient and cost effective manner to the people and to enhance the pace of development of a smart city, the Government will have to play the role of a facilitator and enabler for the private sector, said Gajendra Haldea, Member, Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Government of NCT of Delhi.

Addressing a seminar on ‘ICT Solutions for Digital and Smart Delhi’ organized by FICCI in association with Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Haldea said that the private sector’s role will be critical in creating a smart city as it will be the driving force.

Haldea said that the Delhi government was focusing on the needs of the common man and was taking initiatives that would reach the grassroots.

Elaborating on the Delhi Government’s plan on providing free Wi-Fi at public places, he said that the government was trying to create a business model with the help of the private sector to contain the financial outgo of the government while making the service affordable for the people.

He added that the government was promoting e-services with the aim of providing government services at the doorstep of the citizens.

Haldea said that the Delhi government was looking at developing a single mobility card which could be used in any mode of local transport such as bus and metro. Further, the government was also working towards creating an app-based bus service.

Virat Bhatia, Chairman, FICCI ICT and Digital Economy Committee, said that to enhance productivity for future growth and development of smart cities, there was a need to put government infrastructure in all sectors on ICT. Bringing all government processes on ICT would enable the private sector to actively engage at all levels.
