New Delhi, Jul 4 (KNN) The Indian government has prohibited the import of ‘foie gras’, a food product made of the liver of a duck or goose that has been specially fattened.

“Import policy of the item ‘foie gras’ covered under EXIM Code 0207 43 00 has been changed to ‘prohibited’,” Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Foie gras is a popular delicacy in French cuisine. In order to produce foie gras, the birds are forcefully fed more food than they usually do which helps in depositing large amounts of fat in the liver.  (KNN/SD)
