Govt reduces number of ports for import of un-shredded metallic scrap to 14

New Delhi, Mar 29 (KNN) The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has reduced the number of designated ports for import of un-shredded metallic scrap from 26 to just 14.

The import of scrap takes place only through the designated ports and DGFT says, “no exceptions” would be allowed even in case of EOUs, SEZs.

Now, the new designated sea ports through which scraps can be imported are – Chennai, Cochin, Ennore, JNPT, Kandla, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Paradip, Tuticorin, Vishakhapatnam, Pipava, Mundra and Kolkata.

In a notification, DGFT said the Handbook of Procedures of Foreign Trade has been amended to reflect the list of designated ports for imports of un-shredded metallic scrap and the period for installation and operationalisation of Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner in these ports is extended till March 31, 2018.
