Govt setup 8-member committee for doubling production & quadrupling exports of handlooms in 3 years

New Delhi, Aug 21 (KNN) The government has constituted a committee headed by Sunil Sethi, Chairman, Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), New Delhi to suggest a roadmap for doubling the production and quadrupling the exports of handlooms in a span of 3 years.

According to an official statement on Friday, the committee is set up in pursuance of the announcement made on the occasion of National Handloom Day on 7th August 2021.

Newly constituted committee by the Textile Ministry has been tasked to provide strategy and policy framework for doubling the production and for improving the quality of handloom products with the aim of enhancing the income of the weavers.

The committee has also been asked to provide a roadmap and to suggest ways to suggest measures for quadrupling exports of handloom products.

Other focus area for the committee is to provide a strategy for partnering and collaboration of handloom weavers agencies with the designers, buying houses and institutions, organizations and exporters.

Also, to suggest the ways and means for improving the marketing of handloom products in the domestic market.

The other members of the committee are:

  --  Dr. Sudha Dhingra, Professor, NIFT, New Delhi
  --  Shefali Vaidya, Freelance writer, Pune
  --  Anagha Gaisas, Owner, M/s Saudamini Handlooms, Pune
  --  Suket Dhir, Fashion Designer, New Delhi
  --  Sunil Alagh, MD, M/s SKA Advisors Pvt. Ltd. & Former MD and CEO, M/s Britannia Industries Ltd.,   Mumbai
  --  Dr. K.N. Prabhu. M/s Paradigm International, Karur
  --  Hetal R. Mehta, Chairman, Science Engineering & Science Engineering & Technological Upliftment Foundation (SETU), Surat

''Zonal directors, Manoj Jain and S. Bandyopadhyay will be associated with the committee to facilitate in providing necessary inputs,'' the statement added.

The Committee shall submit its preliminary recommendations within 30 days and final report within 45 days from the day of constitution the Committee, it said.
