Inaugurating a day long Medical and Wellness Tourism Summit-2014 organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here yesterday, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism Parvez Dewan said that the incentives were finalized three days ago.
Those incentives would also be extended to NGOs for promotion of eco-tourism in case they convert themselves in to tour operators and seek proper registration with the government, Dewan said.
The incentives, to be notified shortly for public consumption are likely to comprise part reimbursement of expenses, undertaken by tour operators and market facilitators to propagate medical tourism in India and overseas, indicated the Secretary, Tourism without elaborating much on it.
In addition, Dewan hinted that a cheque amounting to Rs 2 lakh could be given to market facilitators, undertaking travels to take part in symposia, seminar, trade fairs and other such activities beyond Indian boarders for promotion of Indian medical tourism.
Likewise, there could be other such facilities that the Ministry would extend to those advancing medical tourism, especially for patients seeking medical treatment in India because of its low cost and high quality.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Nilanjan Sanyal, informed that the government would ensure that traditional medicines, manufactured in India under trademark of Ayurveda, Unani and the like would have to conform to the prescriptions, provided under the World Health Organization (WHO) in recent times.
Manufacturers not complying with the same would be liable for punishment and attract penalties as provided from time to time, he said, adding that even the emerging brands in the hospitality and super critical medical facilities sector would be integrating the traditional services in their existing infrastructure to provide for best available medical facilities to promote medical tourism in India.
In his welcome remarks, President, PHD Chamber, Sharad Jaipuria, emphasized the need for further promoting medical tourism in India with a multi-pronged strategy and asked the government to prescribe measures in that regard.
