Govt to come up with New Auto Policy to promote green mobility: Heavy Ind Min

New Delhi, Sept 5 (KNN) To promote clean and safe mobility, government will come up with a new auto policy which will lay emphasis on reducing vehicular emissions as well as on green mobility, said Anant Geete, Heavy Industries Minister.

Speaking at the annual session of Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Geete said that the second edition of the Centre's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles (Fame) program is also in offing which expires in December.

Since Fame 1 is coming to end on Dec 31, Geete said “government is also going to come out with Fame 2 scheme in future.”

The new auto policy will accommodate the wishes of the entire industry and take their suggestions into account, said Geete.

The draft policy with regard to new auto policy earlier had recommended the rationalization of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure for automobiles by replacing the current classification criteria with a composite criterion based on vehicle length and carbon dioxide emissions.

Reluctant to share more about Fame 2, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make more announcements on this at the electric mobility summit later this week.

Complimenting ACMA for keeping the Indian industry up-to-date with the latest innovations, he said the body is an integral complement to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) who is going to hold their annual session here on Thursday.
