New Delhi, Jun 9 (KNN) The Ministry of MSME on a social site informed that government will set up more 40 mega-watt panels per annum automated solar module production plants in different part of the country. The initiative is a part of ‘Make in India’ programme.

“A newly set up automated solar module production plant at the Central Electronics Limited (CEL) plant at Sahibabad, Ghaziabad near Delhi has been dedicated to the nation by the Minster of Science and Technology. People’s participation in skill development and the entrepreneurship programmes in the area of solar energy was solicited,” it said on a Facebook post.

India is focusing on renewable energy in a big way from long term energy security as well as sustainability perspectives. The original target of installation of 22 GW of SPV generation capacities in the country by 2022, has now been revised upwards to an even more ambitious level of 100 GW, said the ministry.

The existing panel production capacities in the country are estimated to be about 2500 MWp per annum from which capacity is unlikely to be able to support the ambitious targets. There is a need for additional manufacturing capacity in the country.

As part of this effort and with the objective of supplying world class solar panels at competitive prices, CEL has commissioned this new automated production line with 40 MW panels per annum production capacity.

In order to ensure world class products from this world class facility, CEL has joined hands with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in a ‘Manufacturing Excellence’ project for implementing ‘Total Quality Management’.

The project aims at ensuring quality through control of all processes - right from indenting of raw material till final dispatch of finished products, it said. (KNN/ST)
