New Delhi, Mar 24 (KNN) The Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) is planning to evaluate works executed under the scheme Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojan (RGGVY) program in about 1000 villages across the country.

The scheme which has been implemented through the corporation merges the existing “accelerated electrification of one lakh villages and one crore households” and the “minimum needs programme” for rural electrification.

Under RGGVY, the Ministry of Power has sanctioned 819 projects to electrify 1,22,802 villages and to provide free electricity connection to 388.48 lakh BPL rural households.

As on December 2013, works in 1,07,999 villages have been completed and 214.64 lakh free electricity connection have been released to BPL households.

In this context, the corporation has invited bids from domestic bidders in north, south, west, east and north eastern region of the country for conducting evaluation study.

Apart from the universal obligation to provide electricity to all consumers on demand, the project has an objective to provide electric connection to un-electrified public places like schools, panchayat office and community or government health centres.

The project(s) would need to make provisions for extension of electricity supply to all pending and expected applicants in the near future.  (KNN/ST)
