Govt to extend grants for bio-tech research in small sector
New Delhi, May 15 (KNN)  Government of India has invited proposals from the start-ups,  small  and medium enterprises (SMEs) for giving them grants in aid and other support for  promoting  and nurturing  innovations and research in bio-technology.

The concession can be in the form of grants-in-aid up to 80 per cent besides interest-free loan, according to the Small Business Innovation Research Initiative (SBIRI) of the Department of Biotechnology and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council.

The public-private partnership programme launched  from today under Public-Partnership basis to promote innovation led research by providing financial, infrastructural, institutional and mentoring support  will continue till the end of June.

The scope of work involves establishment of proof of concept of innovation bases on valid hypothesis, R&D, development of lab scale technology, refinement and validation of a technology at small scale.

The bids have been invited from the private- companies, proprietor, partnership firm, small scale industry or jointly with other public or private partner where at least 51 per cent of the shares are held by the Indian citizens.

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a ‘Not-for-Profit Company’ of Government of India and has been set up as Department of Biotechnology’s interface agency, which serves as a single window for the emerging biotech industries.  (KNN)
