New Delhi, Sept 26 (KNN)  In an effort to improve tourism all year-round, the government is launching a new tourism campaign tomorrow on World Tourism Day, to target both national and international travellers.

The new tourism campaign titled ‘777 days of Incredible Indian Himalaya’ will be launched by the Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, according to an official notification.

“The objective of the campaign is to spread awareness about the fact that 73 per cent of the Himalayas lie in India.  Indian Himalayas is an incredible tourism product that can attract both domestic and the international tourists that may have interest in soft and hard adventurism, the flora and fauna of the Himalayas and the Himalayan culture. Till now, this unique product has not been promoted in the national and international markets,” it said.

It is hoped that the new campaign will make the Indian Himalayas into a 365 days tourist destination.  The campaign should attract more international travellers especially during the lean summer months, contributing to making India a year-round destination.

While the winters offer a great variety of adventure sports such as skiing when tourists can take in spectacular views of the snow-clad mountains, the summers will offer expeditions, white water rafting and also adventure sports such as mountain trekking and skiing.

Apart from the unique flora and fauna of the region and the hues and shades of the mountainous landscape, the region can have special appeal for Buddhist tourists.

In the meantime, the Ministry has proposed discussions on how to brand, promote and market the Indian Himalayas; the uniqueness of the product; presentation by the six Himalayan States viz., Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on how to develop Himalayas as a preferred tourist destination amongst both domestic and foreign travellers; launch of two new promotional films on Himalayas; and launch of a map of Himalayas.

Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism in this campaign and they have designed special adventure programmes running over the next 777 days starting from September-27.  (KNN/ES)
