New Delhi, Sept 5 (KNN)  Government will not allow onion prices to rise during the festive season, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said today.

Speaking to the reporters on the side lines of an event organized by CII, Singh said the onion prices are ruling at Rs 25-30 per kg and the government is awake and will not allow prices to rise.

The government is taking measures to control prices of all fruits and vegetables, he added as reported by media.

Recently, the government had removed the requirement of mandatory fumigation for imported onion to boost supply of the commodity and check price rise. The move will relax the import norms for onion and help control its price.

Due to late monsoon, there is fear that onion prices might soar in late September and October.

The domestic demand during the lean period from June to November is met through stored rabi (winter) and fresh kharif (summer) produce. (KNN/SD)
