Guidelines on net neutrality soon, rationalization of data costs and speed to be addressed: TRAI Chief
New Delhi, Oct 27 (KNN) Addressing the issue of net neutrality in the digital era, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India informed it will soon come up with guidelines on net neutrality which calls for access to internet content without any discrimination in data speed and cost.
R S Sharma, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI informed about the latest development during the daylong conference ‘i-Bharat 2017’ organized on Thursday by FICCI in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics & IT, Government of India.
Sharma further said that different elements including information privacy, security and data ownership are to be defined and only after seeking mandate from the industry and relevant stakeholders,TRAI will formulate policies on data privacy and protection.
Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications who was also present during the event informed about the BharatNet. He said that the project aims to provide high speed internet to 2.5 lakh gram panchayats by March 2019.
Virat Bhatia, Chairman, ICT & Digital Economy Committee of FICCI, said that the Internet landscape in India is about to change in India. By 2020, millions of users that will come on the internet will utilize ICT as socio-economic tool of development.
I-bharat is an initiative under Digital India Campaign that aims to promote governance through ICT(Information and Communication Technology) , and further utilizing ICT solutions as the tools for socio-economic transformation. (KNN/AG)
