Guj CM announces 'Ship Recycling Policy - 2015' to boost industry

Ahmedabad, Jan 19 (KNN) With an aim to give a boost to Ship recycling industry in Gujarat, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced Ship Recycling Policy – 2015.
 
Gujarat government has announced this policy with an aim to ensure the continuous growth of ship recycling industries in Alang that provides employment to more than 1.5 lakh people.
 
State government and Gujarat Maritime Board have designed this policy keeping in mind environmental and eco-friendly measures and it will give the right direction and impetus to the industry.
 
Ship recycling industry considered to be among the world’s largest is going through recession and in a time like this, state government’s policy will help to revive the industry and ensure its continuous growth, Patel said while launching the policy on Monday.
 
This policy will be subject to review after 3 years, she added.
 
Under the policy, proposal has been made to increase the grant period for plot utilization from 5 years to 10 years. The Plot development/premium charge will be Rs 270 square meter and the Plot rent will be Rs 80 per square meter.
 
Policy also points out ship recycling should be done in a manner that is environmental and eco-friendly. (KNN Bureau)
