Ahmedabad, Jul 4 (KNN)  The Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) will be setting up a 100 M3 capacity/ day plant for bio gas converting energy from kitchen waste.

Kitchen waste is the best alternative for biogas production in a community level biogas plant. It is produced when bacteria degrade organic matter in the absence of air. Biogas contains around 55‐65 per cent of methane, 30‐40 per cent of carbon dioxide.

The bio-gas produced from food waste, decomposable organic material and kitchen waste, is an alternative fuel for cooking gas (LPG).  Also, the waste materials can be disposed of efficiently without any odour or flies and the digested slurry from the bio-gas unit can be used as organic manure in the garden.

GSECL has now invited bids for “design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of a biogas plant of 100 M3 capacity/day, from kitchen waste at Wanakbori TPS on EPC basis with O&M contract for 10 years,” an official notification said.

Wanakbori Thermal Power Station (WTPS) is located at Latitude 22°52’20”N and Longitude 73°21’34”E near the Wanakbori Dam on the bank of Mahi River in
Kheda District. The WTPS is about 85 km from Vadodara which is well connected by road, railway and air.

At Wanakbori Thermal Power Station (WTPS) site, proposed biogas project is based on kitchen waste is to be installed. The primary analysis indicates that the proposed project can yield approximately 100 M3 Biogas / day from the available raw materials i.e. kitchen waste being generated within the colony. The generated biogas will be used for cooking. The sludge is generated as a by-product of biogas will be used as compost fertilizer. The total available kitchen waste from colony area is about 1.0 MT per day.

The estimated cost for the project is Rs 25 lakhs.  (KNN/ES)
