Handicraft trade body signs MOU with Chinese counterpart

New Delhi, Apr 26 (KNN) Handicraft trade body signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chinese counterpart to promote export of Indian handicrafts to that country.

“A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) which is the largest institution for the promotion of foreign trade in China to explore the possibilities of enhancing handicrafts from India to important markets of China which have never been explored for exports of handicrafts,” said an official statement.

The MOU signed between EPCH and CCPIT will focus on promotion of exports of products such as ethnic and contemporary furniture, wooden handicrafts including furniture from Jodhpur and Saharanpur, imitation jewellery and fashion jewellery and art metal ware from Moradabad. 

The MOU was signed by EPCH, Executive Director, Rakesh Kumar and CCPIT, President, Zeng Kaizhang.

A high-level delegation under the leadership of Secretary-Textiles, Government of India Zohra Chatterji recently visited China for the enhancement of handicraft trade and brand image promotion of Indian handicrafts and textiles in the Chinese market. 

Meanwhile a seminar was organised in Guangzhou to promote the brand image of Indian handicrafts, attended by large number of the Chinese importers, departmental store owners and policy makers.

India will organize first exclusive exhibition of Indian handicrafts in China along with a live demonstration and thematic display of the evolution of Indian handicrafts from traditional to modernity in association with CCPIT.  Further, exchange of techniques, craft exchange programs and reverse buyer seller meets will be organized by both the countries.

“The delegation also had important meetings with Shanghai Textile Association, Shanghai Textile Trade Association, Shanghai Import and Export Chamber and Shanghai Mart.  An international seminar will be organized wherein China Textile Machine Manufacturers will be invited to participate for investment in India,” the statement said.

A delegation from the China Textile Machine Manufacturers will be visiting India shortly to explore the possibilities of investment in India.  (KNN)
