Handloom sector need to focus on quality, consistency and use of technology for better output: Union Minister Goyal

New Delhi, Aug 8 (KNN) The focus of the handloom industry should be on raising the quality, maintaining consistency and better selective use of technology to reduce drudgery without compromising the basic character of Handlooms, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday.

While addressing the event on the National Handloom Day, Goyal said that their need to put the handloom census data out in the public domain for transparency and validation so that the benefits of handloom schemes reach the genuine beneficiaries.

He also emphasised upon free of cost on boarding on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) for maximum number of handloom products so that artisans can avail selling opportunities in government procurement.

“There is also the need to connect weavers and artisans with a greater clientele in both domestic as well as international markets,” an official statement said.

The minister of commerce and industry also lay emphasis on need to urgently make it incumbent upon all government departments to purchase handloom products for their textile needs.

“There is a need to organise large scale exhibition involving all awardees of Handlooms and Handicraft since inception of the awards to celebrate their achievement, and inspire others to emulate them,” he said.  (KNN Bureau)
