Harsh Vardhan gives DST-Lockheed Martin Innovation Awards to 30 innovators

New Delhi, May 13 (KNN) As many as 30 innovators from across sectors received the DST-Lockheed Martin Innovation Awards today from the Union Minister Harsh Vardhan.
 
The DST-Lockheed Martin India Innovation Growth Programme (IIGP) entered its ninth year with 1300 applications for innovative ideas across industries ranging from agriculture and textiles to defence and healthcare.
 
FICCI jointly with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India; Lockheed Martin Corporation; Indo-US Science and Technology Forum; Stanford Graduate School of Business; Indo-US S&T Forum; IC2 Institute, University of Texas at Austin and The Indus Entrepreneurs organized the DST-Lockheed Martin Innovators' Award Function.
 
Vardhan said that there was no dearth of intelligent and innovative minds in India. The need was to convert innovations for society’s benefit with the help of the government and industry. He added that innovations become meaningful when it is for the benefit of mankind.
 
While congratulating the winners, Vardhan said that it was heartening to see the enthusiasm of the young achievers. There was need to create a movement with the help of innovations to improve quality of life. He urged the innovators to focus on immediate issues that the country was facing and provide innovative solutions.
 
Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Ashutosh Sharma said that people from diverse sectors were participating in IIGP and were providing solutions in the field of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, defence, forestry and renewable energy.
 
President, FICCI, Jyotsna Suri, said that as per an impact analysis report by Ernst & Young, the programme has been able to create an economic value of over Rs 1500 crore during the 2002-12 period.  She added that the aim is to create an ecosystem through IIGP wherein there are higher synergies between innovation and the marketplace.
 
Dana (Keoki) Jackson, Chief Technology Officer, Lockheed Martin Corporation, said that through IIGP, we challenge innovators to bring forth ideas and innovations that will shape the future of industries across the country.
