“Indian engineering exporters can take a sense of pride in the fact that the turnaround story in exports is being led by high-tech items like aircraft spacecraft parts and the material used in the nuclear reactors,” said EEPC India Eastern Region Chairman Arun Kumar Garodia in an award function here today.
“Though these items of exports have low base, they send a strong signal about India’s capabilities to deliver mission critical engineering materials to all around the world, he said.
Exports for ships and boats grew by 485 per cent while it was 678 per cent higher for critical consignment in October 2013. The spacecraft category exports shot up to USD 536 million in October 2013 compared to mere USD 92 in the previous corresponding year. The ships and boats exports saw an increase from USD 38 million to USD 295 million, the release said.
Engineering exports moved up from a negative growth rate of (-) 7.01 per cent in the first quarter to 9.70 per cent in second quarter of the current fiscal. The expansion in the growth rate during August, September and October 2013 was sustained.
“It is thanks to the resolve of our exporting community that we are witnessing a turnaround in the engineering exports along with other segments,” Garodia said. (KNN/ST)
