Highlights of Rail Budget 2016-17

New Delhi, Feb 25 (KNN) Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has presented his Ministry’s Budget in the Parliament in which he said would benefit all stakeholders including citizens, employees and industry, among others.

• No changes in passenger fares, freight
• All stations will be brought under CCTV surveillance
• WiFi services to be introduced at 100 stations this year, 400 more stations over next two years.
• World's first Bio-vacuum toilet developed by Indian Railways is being used in Bibrugarh Rajdhani express
• Cabinet approved joint ventures with State govts and 17 consented
• 1.21 lakh crores capital plan in Rail Budget2016, shunning conventional approach, adopting new ways.
• Action has been initiated on 139 budget announcements made last year
• Budget’s 3 Rs are restructure, reorgranise, rejuvenate
• 8.5 lakh crore to be spent over 5 years for modernisation of railway infrastructure

• Proposal to electrify 2,000 km next year, increased electrification budget by 50%

• North East India, especially Mizoram & Manipur, to be connected through broad gauge soon
