IIP to be set up in Gujarat; industries will tie up with the institute: Sitharaman

Gandhinagar, July 7 (KNN) Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel held discussions about the infrastructural facilities and courses to be offered at the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) to be set up in Gujarat.

The two Ministers held a meeting recently in Gandhinagar to discuss about the same.

IIP, to be set up in Gujarat, will conduct research and training.

Talking to the reporters on the side-lines of the meeting, Sitharaman said, “Indian Institute of Packaging will be set up here. It will conduct research on international-standard packaging materials. Industry in Gujarat will get certification from the IIP without the need to go to Mumbai.”

"The new IIP will offer training, diploma and postgraduate diploma courses. Classes will begin from the next academic year itself. The state government will provide temporary accommodation for the initial period on the campus of any one university. The institute will be set up in three phases as it will also have testing and research labs," said Sitharaman.

She also said that industries will tie up with the institute. "In the first phase, the academic block and a block for service sector will be set up in the first two years. The second phase will be completed in the next two years and the last phase in one year," she added.
