New Delhi, Oct 15 (KNN)  The recently formed Indian Internet Pharmacy Association (IIPA),  representing a group of ePharmacy companies that have taken initiative to organize digital pharmacy in India, has come out with an operating model for e-pharmacy.

The outcome is a result of much deliberation consisting of the formation of sub-committees and panels along with repeated meeting since June, IIPA said.

Strictly abiding by the rules and operating with full compliance of the law, the operation of the association involves dispensing the order (only if accompanied by a copy of prescription) from pharmacies operating with a retail pharmacy license, by a registered pharmacist.  Further, all the orders are tracked, records maintained and an audit trail is available.

Also, the pharmacy partners which the association works with are required to ensure 100 per cent bill paid invoices with complete product details and batch numbers.

“Additionally, we make sure we do not allow any Schedule X, Narcotic, Psycotropic drugs to go through our system. This is to be extra cautious so that even inadvertently, there is no abuse of these medicines through our platforms,” said one of the owners of an e-pharmacy company under IIPA, Shravan Kesarla.

Presently, there are two models which operate the organised E-Pharmacy. One is an inventory based model where E-pharmacy is an online service of an offline licenced pharmacy and the other is a market place model where a technology company connects neighbourhood licenced pharmacies to the end user.

The association is very confident about the advantages derived from the new organised model.

Under the proposed model, there is an increase in availability of medicines to even the rural and Tier-3 areas.  Along with a better and efficient supply chain, there is an upward movement in the user awareness.  Since all transactions are recorded, full tax collection and increased revenues to the Government are assured.  The model also ensures consumer convenience and access.

“Our model helps the system become more efficient, and we provide a service that is convenient and safe for the consumer,” added Kesarla.  (KNN Bureau)
