Import of natural sands to be subject to plant quarantine

New Delhi, Nov 18 (KNN)  The Import Policy of 'Natural Sands' has been revised.  With this revision, import of sand will now be subject to plant quarantine, according to the Regulation of Import into India Order of 2003.

“In exercise of powers conferred under Section 3 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 1.3 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2009-2014, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in Import Policy of Chapter 25 of ITC (HS) 2012, Schedule 1 (Import Policy),” DGFT said in a notification of November-7.

The effect of the notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is that henceforth, import of natural sands of all kinds, silica and quartz sands, whether or not coloured, other than metal bearing sands, will be subject to plant quarantine, it said.  (KNN Bureau)
