Improve competence, techniques, Textile Minister tells jewellers

New Delhi, Jul 19 (KNN)  Although manufacturers of fashion jewellery and accessories have shown good performance in exports, they need to innovate and improve techniques and competence to compete with countries like China and Thailand, Textiles Minister said.

Indian exporters have shown good performance in increasing the exports of fashion jewellery and accessories, yet they need to do more hard work in improving their competence to face the competition from countries like China, Thailand, Korea and Hong Kong who mass produce jewellery with precision and finish, said a media release quoting the Minister.

Union Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar declared open the 7th edition of the Indian Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Show (IFJAS 2014), organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) in Greater Noida yesterday.

The Textile Minister stated that fashion is deep routed in Indian culture for centuries and that products on display reflect the designs and styles based on Indian motifs. 

He went on to urge the exporting community to innovate and improve their techniques and technology of manufacturing, as also improve design and presentation of products.
“We have to learn from our competitors the various aspects of designs, manufacturing, finishing and presentation,” he said.

He acknowledged the wide range of versatile products available in India, made from various types of metals, and other raw material bases like bones, wood, beads, threads, stones, leather, horns, natural fibers and plastic etc. 

The IFJAS 2014 features around 170 exhibitors displaying products such as Hi fashion jewellery, semi-precious jewellery, stoles, scarves, shawls, hand bags, clutch purses, belts, wallets, neck ties, beads, stones, crystals, head, hair accessories, fancy fashion footwear, tattoos and bindies.  The designs on display are rich, traditional, modern and contemporary to suit all sections of society and markets.

The event also has a fashion preview of jewellery and accessories on all three days (July-18 to 20), a seminar on “Latest Trends and Forecast of 2016 and “Get Online with Amazon India and Profitability on 19th July; and a thematic display by National Centre for Design and Product Development on products of different craft clusters.

The export of fashion jewellery and accessories has touched Rs. 2860.14 crore in 2013-14 against Rs. 2029.47 crore in 2012-13.  (KNN/ES)
