New Delhi, Apr 12 (KNN)  Allocation of additional funds to agriculture by state governments to finance cash starved projects and innovation under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY)  has helped in accelerating revival of  the sector.

“Regular activities starved of resources, promising strategies languishing for lack of support, and limited opportunities for experimentation and innovation, have found a new hope in RKVY.  States are allocating more funds to agriculture to take up schemes of agriculture development,” said an official statement.

National Food Security Mission (NFSM), a very ambitious project of the Agricultural Ministry has also achieved tremendous success with high production of wheat, rice and pulses. Wheat production for 2011-12 was 94.88 million tons as against 75.81 million tons in 2006-07.  Rice and pulses produced in 2011-12 was 105.31 million tons and 17.09 million tons respectively when compared to 93.36 million tons and 14.20 million tons during 2006-07.

“Farmers have enthusiastically responded to NFSM supported farm machinery components, especially to Zero till seed drills.  The awareness generated through demonstrations and distribution of seed mini kits of newly released varieties to the farmers has triggered substantial increase in the use of high yielding varieties of wheat and rice seed in identified districts,” it added.
