India aims 100 per cent self-reliance in entire manufacturing value chain of automobiles

New Delhi, Sept 15 (KNN) In the next 25 years India’s automobile industry has set a target to become one of the top two largest  producers globally in every auto segment.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (SIAM), President Kenichi Ayukawa said on Thursday that India also plans to be nearly 100 per cent self-reliant in the entire manufacturing value chain of automobiles during the period as per the Vision 2047, reported ET.

He was speaking at SIAM’s 62nd annual session.

As per the vision statement for India at 100, the automobile industry will be one of the two largest producers in every segment of automobiles in the world, he said.

Ayukawa noted that in the next 25 years the industry also aims to have a leading share of clean energy vehicles on a life-cycle basis.

Developing technologies and new energy infrastructure will also be a major area of focus for the industry.

Explaining the present market situation, he said that even before the outbreak of covid-19 pandemic the domestic automobile industry has been going through a long-term, deep structural slowdown.  (KNN Bureau)
