India lifts export ban to Bhutan ahead of Modi visit

New Delhi, Jun 14 (KNN)  Days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Thimphu, India has given exemption to Bhutan from export ban on certain items like milk powder, wheat, edible oil, pulses and non-basmati rice.    
  
“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 (No. 22 of 1992)…of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2009-2014, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby exempts export of the following items to Bhutan from any export ban,” said Directorate Generation of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification.

Export of milk powder, wheat, edible oil, pulses, non-basmati rice to Bhutan will be exempted from any ban and without any quantitative restrictions, it added.

Modi is scheduled to visit Bhutan from June-15 to 16.

Bilateral trade relations between India and Bhutan have grown significantly from the level of USD 141.86 million in 2003-04 to USD 397.22 million in 2012-13. While India's exports to Bhutan in 2012-13 were USD 233.22 million, the imports were valued at USD 164 million. (KNN/SD)
