Indian Railways Approves Rs 493 Crore Adipur–Bhuj Doubling Project in Gujarat

New Delhi, Jun 17 (KNN) Indian Railways has approved a Rs 493 crore doubling project for the 49-km Adipur–Bhuj section of Western Railway in Gujarat, aimed at enhancing rail capacity and strengthening connectivity in the Kutch region.

The project is part of Indian Railways' ongoing network augmentation programme and is expected to support rising passenger and freight traffic on the strategically important corridor.

The Adipur–Bhuj section, currently operating as a single-line route on the Gandhidham–Naliya corridor, is expected to witness significant traffic growth due to railway projects under implementation, including the Bhuj–Naliya gauge conversion, extension of the Naliya–Vayor line, and new rail links connecting Naliya–Jakhau, Vayor–Lakhpat and Deshalpar–Luna.

With these projects expected to generate additional passenger and freight movement, the doubling work has been sanctioned to improve capacity and operational efficiency.

The project is expected to enable the operation of two additional passenger train services in each direction daily, improving connectivity and travel convenience across the region.

The doubled line will also facilitate an additional 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight traffic, strengthening logistics infrastructure and industrial connectivity in western Gujarat.

According to Indian Railways, line capacity utilisation on the section is projected to reach 123 per cent by 2029-30, making capacity augmentation necessary to avoid congestion and operational bottlenecks.

The project is expected to improve train reliability, reduce operational constraints, support future traffic growth and contribute to economic development in the Kutch region through enhanced rail infrastructure.
