Indian Railways Approves Rs 499Cr Mansi-Saharsa Doubling Project in Bihar, Paving the Way for Better Freight Movement
New Delhi, Jul 1 (KNN) Indian Railways has approved a Rs 499 crore project to double the 44.40-km Mansi-Saharsa section of East Central Railway in Bihar to increase line capacity and improve passenger and freight movement on the route.
The Mansi-Saharsa section, part of the Mansi-Saraigarh route, is currently a single-line corridor handling 24 pairs of passenger trains in each direction, along with freight traffic carrying commodities such as wheat, maize, ballast, boiled rice, cement, fertilisers, rice, salt, sand, stone and sugar.
According to Indian Railways, line capacity utilisation on the section has reached 108.11 per cent and is projected to increase to 119.34 per cent by 2028-29, highlighting the need for additional capacity.
The doubling project is expected to ease congestion, improve operational flexibility and punctuality, and support future growth in passenger and freight traffic.
Once completed, the project is expected to enable the movement of an additional 1.764 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight, strengthening logistics for agriculture, construction and other sectors in the region.
