Indian Railways Sanctions Rs. 440 Cr Line Expansion to Support Heavy Freight & Mineral Logistics in Eastern Belt

New Delhi, Jul 23 (KNN) Indian Railways has approved the construction of a 14.52-km third railway line between Nimpura West Outer Cabin and Midnapur in South Eastern Railway at an estimated cost of Rs 440 crore.

The project is located on the High Utilisation Network (HUN-2) route. The Nimpura West Outer Cabin–Gokulpur section is currently a single line, while doubling works are underway. The third line is expected to increase capacity and improve operational flexibility on the corridor.

The section handles both passenger and freight traffic, including manganese, iron ore, containers, coal, clinker, pellets, steel, wheat, petroleum products, fertilisers, cement and other commodities. 

The route currently handles nearly 23.80 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight and has a line capacity utilisation of 115.71 percent.

The project is expected to accommodate an additional 3.52 MTPA of freight traffic, reduce congestion and improve the movement of essential commodities and passenger trains.
