India’s Pharma Exports Hit USD 8.10 Bn In Q1 FY27, Up 6.8% YoY: Pharmexcil
New Delhi, Aug 12 (KNN) India’s pharmaceutical exports increased 6.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to USD 8.10 billion in the first quarter of FY27, compared with USD 7.58 billion in the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to data from the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil).
The growth was driven by higher shipments across several key product categories, including vaccines, bulk drugs and drug intermediates.
Pharmexcil said product diversification, regulatory compliance and expansion into new markets will be crucial to sustaining the momentum in pharmaceutical exports, ANI reported.
Vaccines, Bulk Drugs Drive Growth
Drug formulations and biologicals remained the largest export category, accounting for 73.85 per cent of total pharmaceutical exports at USD 5.98 billion. The segment grew 4.14 per cent during the quarter.
Bulk drugs and drug intermediates, the second-largest category, rose 13.84 per cent to USD 1.36 billion, while vaccine exports surged 35.68 per cent to USD 390 million. Surgical product exports also increased 11.95 per cent to USD 210 million.
In June, pharmaceutical exports grew 7.13 per cent YoY to USD 2.81 billion, compared with USD 2.63 billion in May.
US Remains Largest Export Market
North America, Europe, Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean together accounted for nearly 75 per cent of India's pharmaceutical exports during the quarter. North America remained the largest regional market, with a 34.28 per cent share.
The US was the largest country-wise destination, receiving pharmaceutical shipments worth USD 2.50 billion, or 30.89 per cent of India's total exports. Brazil, the UK, the Netherlands and France followed.
The top 25 export destinations accounted for nearly 70 per cent of India's pharmaceutical exports, with shipments worth USD 5.65 billion, up 5.50 per cent year-on-year.
Focus on Higher-Value Segments
Pharmexcil Chairman Namit Joshi said, “India must continue consolidating its leadership in generics while building a stronger presence in complex generics, biosimilars, peptides and other innovation-led segments,” as quoted by ANI.
The council said it would continue working with the government, industry and overseas stakeholders to improve market access and regulatory cooperation, with the aim of supporting India's expansion in both established and emerging pharmaceutical markets.
