Individuals with duplicate/ multiple DINs can retail oldest DIN: Ministry of Corporate Affairs

New Delhi, Sept 5 (KNN) The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has said that the individuals with duplicate or multiple Director Identification Numbers (DINs) can retain the oldest DIN only and surrender the one obtained later.

The concept of a Director Identification Number (DIN) was introduced for the first time with the insertion of Sections 266A to 266G of Companies (Amendment) Act, 2006. As such, all the existing and intending Directors have to obtain DIN within the prescribed time-frame as notified.

The Ministry said, “As per the extant rules, in respect of an individual who is in possession
of Duplicate/Multiple DINs, he can retain the Oldest DIN only. DINs obtained later have to be surrendered.”

It said, “Please note that on approval of form DIR-5, all existing/erstwhile associations of the surrendered DIN shall be automatically mapped to the retained DIN.”

Meanwhile, in respect of an individual with a single DIN, if it is/was once associated with any LLP or Company, it is NOT eligible for surrender. Stakeholders may kindly take note and plan accordingly, said the Ministry. (KNN Bureau)
