Industry bodies hail Congress poll manifesto

"Continuing our record of delivering India's highest growth rates, we will restore India to 8 per cent plus growth rate within 3 years," the manifesto had said, adding that government would continue to take firm action to control inflation even in difficult global economic scenario.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) welcomed the manifesto which focuses on the aspirations of the common man.
“The rights to health, to pensions and to housing are three major initiatives promised by the Congress, which will go a long way to support inclusive growth,” said CII President Kris Gopalakrishnan.
He also emphasised his hope on the introduction and implementation of new tax policy sooner.
“Importantly for industry, the manifesto has committed to introduce the Goods and Services Tax Code Bill and a new Direct Tax Code Bill in Parliament and ensure that they are enacted within one year” he said.
Meanwhile, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) said the manifesto provides aspirational vision on many key concerns facing the economic life of the nation and the people.
“Inclusive growth is an imperative however the wide variety of rights must be only based on sound economic health of the country,” said FICCI President Sidharth Birla. (KNN/ST)
