Industry-transport operators sceptical over the implementation of E-way bill: AIMTC
New Delhi, Oct 24 (KNN) E-way bill which requires movement of goods above Rs50,000 to be pre-registered online is expected to roll out after March,2018.According to the bill, the truck operators are required to carry the printed bill with them the whole journey and the tax officials can inspect the ‘e-way bill’ anytime during the transit.
Naveen Kumar Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) spoke to KNN about the current scenario with GST in place and rollout of eway bill in March 2018.
He said that the industry and the operators are not in the favor of e-way bill .The main purpose of the bill is to avoid tax evasion but with GST already been introduced, eway bill is an unnecessary compliance and will lead to corruption. Under the GST regime, consignors have to upload the documents declaring the value of goods on the online GST portal and if consignee approves it, there is no need and practical use for e way bill.
He further said that due to GST the business of small trucker operators has been decreased and the introduction of eway bill will further affect the business and will lead to corruption and harassment of truck operators.
He said that the spirit of e way bill is good but the manual intervention by tax authorities will hamper the seamless movement of the goods across the country. He suggested that the checking must be done at destination and origin of the consignment not in between the transit. (KNN/AG)
