‘Natural dyes - Quality, Standards and Certification’ is the theme for the programme scheduled to be held from March 5 to 7.
The three-day workshop will cover topics such as potential natural dye resources- collection and cultivation aspects, natural dye extraction, application and finishing technologies, value addition to natural dye products, standardization and certification protocol, marketing and branding and industrial application of natural dye technology in food, pharmaceuticals, textiles and cosmetics.
Eminent scientists and experts from different countries in the field of natural dyes will deliver lectures.
In addition, artisans engaged in production of different natural dye products will demonstrate and showcase their talents. The event will also feature selected oral and poster presentations.
The demand for natural dyes has been increasing in the context of environmental safety throughout the globe.
Even though natural dyes have been used for centuries, there are no standards for certification of the natural dyed textiles and products. As a result, it is becoming difficult for both manufacturers and buyers to differentiate natural dyed fabrics from the synthetic dyed fabrics.
A number of counterfeit textiles dyed with synthetic dyes to the matching shades of natural dyes are in the market, creating a lot of confusion to the buyer. Therefore, it is imperative to come up with identification procedures and standards for certification of natural dyed products. (KNN/ST)
