Just like subsidies to farmers to handle farm fire, govt should subsidize Online Air Emission Monitoring System for industry: Haryana MSMEs

New Delhi, Nov 1 (KNN) As the implementation of the Online Air Emission Monitoring System (OAEMS) is quite expensive, the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Haryana have asked the government to partner with the industrial units and subsidize the equipment in order to ensure better compliance.

The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has asked industries in the state to install the Online Air Emission Monitoring System (OAEMS), as mandated by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The air quality of the city was poor for the past 15 days, as per an HSPCB report. As of now, notices have been issued to units with a turnover of more than Rs 5 crore.

Talking to Animesh Saxena, President, Udyog Vihar Industrial Association, said, “Pollution is a national health issue so government. At the same time putting OAEMS is important and expensive, so the government should come forward to provide some subsidy  regarding it or some soft loan for meeting the balance cost. This way the compliance would be better.”

He said, “People under financial pressure may not be installing it, or maybe they will install it and not operate it.”

Saxena mentioned that if government can consider the budget for farmers to handle farm fire, then in the same way the government should consider for industry also. This will help in better acceptance by the industry.

“The industrial units feel that they have no choice and they will have to do it. They also feel they should have some financial support that will help them,” he said.

As it is a severe national health issue, everybody will volunteer willingly and try to follow the norms, Saxena opined seeking government's support in handling it.

Meanwhile, Saxena, who is also senior member of industry body FISME, pointed that in Haryana the gas pipeline is not operational. He urged the government to introduce PNG to industrial area in Gurgaon.

He said that in Gurgaon the agency which have the license for PNG is private and has been very slow in laying the pipelines and providing the connections. None of the industrial area in Gurgaon is served by PNG.”

The entrepreneur raised concern as in order to get uninterrupted power supply, the industries are forced to use generators and boilers that run on the bio-fuel and adds to the pollution level.
