Mumbai, Jun 17 (KNN) In an effort to lend an identity and build its brand, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) proposes to merchandise its woven products with proper tags.

“Under the Khadi Reform and Development Program (KRDP), it has been envisaged that to authenticate genuineness of khadi textiles (cotton, wool and silk), Khadi Mark tags and stickers are to be affixed on khadi and khadi products,” KVIC said.

The commission will be placing an order for printing about one crore Khadi Mark paper tags and another one crore Khadi Mark woven label under the programme.
The material of the products will be handmade paper for paper tags and synthetic cloth for woven label.

Funded by Asian Development Bank, KRDP has an objective to strengthen the Khadi and Village Industries subsector with enhanced sustainability of khadi, increased employment generation and income, increased artisan welfare, and development of select traditional village industries.

One of the key priority areas under the programme is creating Khadi textile as a niche hand spun and hand woven fabric and to become commercially viable in the highly competitive textiles market. (KNN/ST)
